Five Minute Breakfast Poems #2

It means you set an egg timer or oven clock and write.
JUST write. For FIVE minutes.
Salvage what you can or post it all.
Just write. Don't be a weenie. Write.

Mine:
I know there is a play date at my home in two hours
full of laughter and limbs and the whole house will shake
with the intensity of them
but right now in the before of today
in the dark dark morning
where mothers live
I am free from old food bits
and spit up caked on collars and
the way we ache and sometimes do cry in the pantry alone because the day has unraveled too much
too far to retrieve
before all of that
I am free like I used to be
                                        free to dream about
                                        swallow tattoos
                                        and far away blues

You have no idea how you inspire me to write, and not just write, but to TRY to write better. Love your passion.

(You didn't forget mine because I just found your prompt, but here's my (gulp) 5 minutes from this morning.)

I also love that line "in the before of today". Is it too dorky to say "I want to be like you when I grow up"?

Anyway, here it goes...

One more thing... I'm new to blogging and don't know all the rules, but...

Is it okay if we link back to everyone else's poems on our own? I'm reading these and yall are just GAH SO AMAZING and I want to share yall with everyone. Do I just ask permission from each person on their own blogs or can I link them on mine or how does all this work?!

I remember those days when I wore bright, patterned tops to hide the various food bits that landed there. Sweet memories now.

My attempt is here: Split pea soup
