Who the hell is Marconi?
In choir class back in the late 80's I was an alto.
I kinda assumed that all altos were bad ass.
Sopranos were all prissy with perfectly pressed stonewashed Guess jeans.
Tangent: (My God. Anna Nicole Smith was at her height of sexiness during this time.)
Altos were like Benetton sweatshirts and leggings. Sopranos were prissy.
The teacher made us sing "We Built this City" by Starship because she thought it was bad ass.
We sang it so many times that it became imprinted on my brain.
My frontal lobes were pressed.
It was taught to us in almost operatic choral arrangement
and I have been randomly singing it for like 20 years.
I will be just rocking out my normal (non normal) life and all of the sudden I will bust out:
Marconi plays the mamba
Listen to the radio
DONCHA reMEMba...
and it's annoying- there are other songs too.
Songs that for no good reason I sing out in operatic ways.
Finn has started to tell me I am weird.
He says, "MOM! Stop it!"
I know.
It is like the worst song ever made or so said Blender magazine in 2004.
It's just so unfortunate-
to have the tics that I have.
I also close my eyes a lot when I talk.
How are you weird?

Guglielmo Marconi - inventor best known for his development of a radio telegraph system which served as the foundation for the establishment of numerous affiliated companies worldwide.
Hence "Marconi plays the Mamba, listen to the radio."
I've always wondered about the eye closing thing. Not about you, just about people who do it.
How am I weird? Oh my. That would be a long list indeed. I don't have a TV or microwave. THAT is pretty weird. I pretty much never listen to music. That is odd, too.
This post made me smile. Ironically, I LITERALLY just spent the nightly serenade explaining "bass/tenor/alto and soprano" to my children. They didn't quite get it yet, but I have faith! I am an alto, as well, so I totally know what you are saying. Choir! What a funny time that was. :) And "We Built This City"... OMG. We used to sing that song too and I know it gets a lot of flack, but I kind of love it for all of its cheesiness. Let's belt it together one day?!
fellow altos unite! back row, baby! xoxo meesh
Well. Apparently I am weird because I like the song "We Built This City" (which is now rumbling around my empty brain)
I am weird because I say the most random things and random times - always throws people off.
I also cannot remember what I did last night BUT I'll remember that when your cousin visits from Houston - that on their last visit they mentioned wanting to paint their bedroom green, and I'll bring that up and ask if they settled on a green paint color. Who does that?!
I will often read magazines back to front.
I have some tic where I wink with my right eye but don't intend to. So apparently I flirt all the time. dang.
How's that?! You knew I couldn't be without quirks!
I still click my tooth when I drive. Remember that? And my mother paid the dentist to fill in the groove when I thought I was just getting my teeth cleaned? And I wore the groove back into my tooth anyway because I'm just that persistent.
i like to sing things in an operatic way, also. we should start a youtube channel. :D
also, sometimes mouth the words people are speaking if i can anticipate what they are going to say. have you ever noticed me doing it to you? my mom does it, too.
This weirdness of yours would come in handy at karaoke night, I'm sure. How am I weird? When I go for a walk, I automatically count my steps in my head. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it, but suddenly I'll be going "107, 108, 109, 110..."
You are killing me. that song is now stuck in my head. I am in my studio sewing a sling and singing it over and over and over. Stinker. ;)
xoxo
I was a soprano, but I totally get what you are saying. The alto girls seemed so much more laid back, I had quite the range and so our director never let me sing with the altos (pouty face) I still bust into song at random times and my girls still ask me to stop. But most of my outbursts are Sesame Street songs that I sang because we didn't have a radio in our car when we were first married and Giggles would ask me to sing songs to her over and over. (She doesn't like it so much now....LOL)
