Back to that child

This was the first slide of my Pecha Kucha presentation last night. I talked about how I knew in the second grade that I wanted to be a writer. I am the "large boy" in the center front row with red plaid shirt.  :)
I knew that my talent for getting all the attention was my words.
I was a storyteller and I discovered that it charmed people.
I think we all know what we love to do when we are children.

It just takes some of us a long time to get back to that child.

I love seeing people's childhood pictures. Sounds mushy, but it softens my heart-- and not just for the person in the picture, but for people and their stories generally. They don't all turn out well, but there's always something to appreciate in a kid's expression-- guileless though it may not be!

I love these school pictures!! I was a "boy" too! My mom would cut my hair super short. The boys make it easier for me to get back to my mini-me as they are constant reminders of what is possible.

Childhood pictures are the best. I have some doozies! It's awesome that you knew you wanted to be a writer even in second grade!

I love old class photos, but I feel really bad for the girl on the far left, forced to sit on the other side of the teacher's feet, like an outcast.

I resembled a large boy in some of my old school photos too. The Dorthy Hamill haircut wasn't flattering on me.
