I know it's crazy.

"Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around – nobody big, I mean – except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff – I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye, and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy."

I am all hopped up on Salinger today.

I mean don't you remember when you read it for the first time and you were like 14 years old and you spread out on your twin bed all day long and drool came off your lips and you got up only to eat and pee and when it was finished you shut the book and your brained popped like light bulb crackles and you slept for America?

Yep. But for me it was just before 6th grade, the only interesting (empty cover, whoa) book short enough to pick up and read, at my cousin's house, and it was Franny and Zooey. Sometimes when I read a lot of Salinger I feel like I -think- like the characters. You too?

What's up with your fiction?

Yes exactly like that.

I am HORRIFIED to admit that I have not read Catcher in the Rye. I can't believe I even just admitted that here. (clicking off to request from the library right now.)

I love your blog, Amy.

I need to re-read it. I did not read it as a teenager and always felt disadvantaged by that. So I read it about eight years ago. When I was still practicing law and was a big PHONEY.

I was late to Salinger, but when I did read Catcher in the Rye, I devoured it and then read every other thing he ever wrote immediately aftewards. Why am I just NOW finding your blog? I love it!
