Don't just stand there/ let's get to it

So instead of paying bills and sorting out my house (the state of Sir Finn's room?!!! ) I decided to play dress up today. I am slightly freaking out that in a month I will go to Blogher and will be surrounded by fabulous and frump free mamas! I used to love fashion and would dress up daily and revel in the threads, but now I mostly look like a train wreck.
I have that little spark inside of me still and I fan the flame every now and again, like this weekend I go for part deux of my big fat Kurdish wedding.

The Ohio wedding party is happening and I will rock it somehow, but for Blogher I have to plan at least five outfits and I might pass out from the stress. I am trying to not spend a lot of money on clothing right now bc it is no secret that I am not at my goal weight. Blah. It just sorta happened, I just sorta did not lose the weight from Blaise and poof all of the sudden it is 16 months later. I sorta suck.

I would love this dress if she made it in my size.
Swoon.
So, I will try and pull something together. I did buy a little cheap frock from Target. Yet somehow I do not look as cute as little miss shim and sons in it. Oh well.
I also found the little gold shift that I bought in LA last year and will sort out the destruction I caused by throwing it in the dryer and rock it perhaps? I found some other things in the deep recesses of my closet and will try. I need advice people. What can I do on a budget to look fabulous? Where can I buy a few things to freshen me up? I think I am due for a bunch of blond in my hair and a brow wax too! Please don't tell me that my bubbly personality and charisma will make me gorgeous. I already know that :)
I need concrete beauty tips and tricks to reverse the damage done in the past year of staying home with my children! :)

Honey. I would kill to come over with a bottle of wine right now and sit in your room and raid your closet and help you plan outfits. I think you look fantastic and every one of those pictures of you is adorable.

The only thing that's fat is the e-mail I'm about to send you that'll be bursting with tips. xoxoxo

Remember, we're all thinking the same thing!

I'm still working on the last 5-10 lb. from my kids and they are 6 & 8.

Do you have a Kohl's? I've found some cute tops there and will probably wear them with capris or pants that I already have.

Looks like you've got a great start!

I love the gold shift! Very cool!

Have you tried Express?! Some cute new Celia Birtwell frocks are in stores - cute, summery, and stylish!

I love the gold one. You look great! I know how it feels to take forever to lose the weight. I am holding on to 5+ pounds yet.

I agree with headless mom - looks like you've got a great start!

I'm so with you on this. I want to get a couple new things to spice up what I already have in my wardrobe. I suppose we are spazzing out about this too much? Or maybe not!

I'm certain you will bring the pretty whatever you come up with!

You know what I do when I want to look effortlessly put together? I put on a great pair of jeans & a crisp, white button down shirt. I got mine at Target for like $15. Espadrille wedges (also Target) and a chunky necklace and everyone's all, "Oh you look so put-together!" and I'm all, "Yeah, this outfit cost me thirty bucks."

One thing that can change an entire outfit, at least in my mind: SUMMER SCARF. Something light and made of cotton that will instantly dress up your most basic outfit, even with a t-shirt and jeans. I promise, it's a versatile item that will come in handy as the summer months turn to fall, and also as you sit in air-conditioned conference room and hotel bars (hee hee).

I got lucky with some dresses from the Eddie Bauer outlet at the outlet mall. : ) Feeling the same way you do-- the husband is all "You don't dress up for ME like this!"

Oh, baby, when you figure it out, let me know. I have been dwelling squarely in the Land Of Frump for the past year and half, longing for my days as a well-heeled flibbertigibbet.

all black. all the time.

however, that would NOT suit your...what was it?...bubbly persona? something like this?

you even look great with your hair all mussed up on the top video on kirtsy. so there. xoxo.

gold shift, for sure, doll! the gingham frock is perfect for daytime too. you'll feel solid with the perfect shoes and bag...they make everything look better. new bra and panties make any last-year-purchase feel new and exciting again. and a few sit-ups (just a few, totally managable) always help me feel a little, well, tight where i am not when i do them just before getting dressed for the event. smokey eyes at night. your favorite lip gloss, always. honey, put any of that with your wit and charm and you're the hottest ticket at blogher!

You mean, people there won't look frumpy?

Crap. I'm doomed.

I did just buy some new shirts at Sears for cheap. They show off my GIANT upper arms.

invest in some power wear: bras that make you FEEL strong & confident, lipgloss, and some pretty hair clips. c'est tout tres jolie fille.

I'd like to lose the 10 pounds I've gained, so I completely relate! Some of the best dressers I've seen keep it simple, avoid lots of patterns, focus on the accessories, and always wear clothes that aren't a wee bit too tight or a wee bit too big.

There are lots of good thrift shops around-what about Rag O Rama?! Feeling frumpy sucks.

Unfortunately, I am in the tattered yoga pants and muffin top zone, still. I am so out of it. If I were you, I would spend some time at thrift stores and consignment shops, and if I were in NYC I would go to Loehmann's, which was my standby.

But as I have no concrete tips, I would like to point you in the direction of someone who will.

good luck, and I wish I was going to blogher so I could commiserate with you... and so I could go.
