"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it."

I was reading an article on the plane this week about WPA posters. Now honestly I did not know much about the WPA- only that when my cousin named her daughter with the initials of WPA her mother made a big deal about it and we were all like "What?"
I must have been applying lip gloss and writing in bubble letters on my folder during that history class session. It is actually kinda embarrassing that my British husband is constantly refreshing my knowledge of my own country. How can I memorize massive parts of Gertrude Stein's Tender Buttons but be unable to say much about Franklin Delano Roosevelt? My brain is not right.

Anyhoo, it is kinda cool shit. It was basically from what I gather that contemporary artists were paid to make gorgeous propaganda silkscreen, lithograph, and woodcut posters. They ranged from art to health education. The social messages mixed with amazing art has made me crazy.
I love these. Around 2,000 posters were created by artists working for the New Deal Era Works Progress Administration.
I would love to have one now.
I might have found something to collect after all these years.

I listened to a fabulous episode of This American Life" on the airplane.
#361 I love Mike Birbiglia. Love him. He has a REM behavior disorder, where the lack of dopamine his body produces makes him act out his dreams. Like fer real. Like crashing through La Quinta hotel windows naked in the middle of the night like the Incredible Hulk.

I had a gorgeous weekend in Boulder at the Chicks Who Click conference.
It was stellar and I learned so much and met amazing women and even a few cool dudes. I got to work on my own social media life, talk about my love for Kirtsy, and just surround myself with Internet rock stars.
It rocked.
I loved the size of the event as it was really perfect for meeting and interacting and really connecting.
I left Boulder with some new friends and that is always a great feeling.
I left Boulder with some plans and ideas.
I left Boulder with a massive headache
bc Gwen Bell took me to a karaoke bar!
rawk.

"Nobody's looking for a puppeteer in today's wintry economic climate."

I fell in love with these kinda freaky masks before the holidays and bought a few to play with and I figured they would eventually hang on the wall. Blaise loves them and is not afraid of them so they are in his room now.

Me and the wee one played around this morning in his room and I aged the photos here.

I love decorating the boys rooms with random stuff. I like the way they look on the walls.

I am off to www.chickswhoclick.com and I am super excited. I will send ya some love from Boulder tomorrow night. Me and Legs Bell and Greeblemonkey and tons of others will be tearing it up!

"This is Hard Harry reminding you to eat your cereal with a fork, and do your homework in the dark."

It was the summer I was 16 and babysitting for this family out in the woods.
It was one little boy and he was so smart and the landscape was gorgeous and I didn't have that much drama in my life so I actually enjoyed the morning walks around the property and the board games at the farmhouse table and the sun tea.
The mother had a copy of “The Pill versus the Spring Hill Mine Disaster” on the coffee table and that is where I met Richard Brautigan.
Later I would fall in love with the whole beat generation, but for that summer (the summer I was still clueless- thinking teenage boys loved anyone or that you could fully mask the smell of cigarette smoke with Victoria's Secret Her Majesty's Rose lotion )Brautigan ruled.

I am always sad when read bios about him- "driven to drink and despair, he committed suicide in Bolinas, California, at the age of 49."

Your Catfish Friend

If I were to live my life
in catfish forms
in scaffolds of skin and whiskers
at the bottom of a pond
and you were to come by one evening
when the moon was shining
down into my dark home
and stand there at the edge of my affection
and think, “It’s beautiful
here by this pond. I wish somebody loved me,”
I’d love you and be your catfish
friend and drive such lonely
thoughts from your mind
and suddenly you would be at peace,
and ask yourself, “I wonder
if there are any catfish in this pond? It seems like
a perfect place for them.”

To England
There are no postage stamps that send letters
back to England three centuries ago,
no postage stamps that make letters
travel back until the grave hasn't been dug yet,
and John Donne stands looking out the window,
it is just beginning to rain this April morning,
and the birds are falling into the trees
like chess pieces into an unplayed game,
and John Donne sees the postman coming up the street,
the postman walks very carefully because his cane
is made of glass.
